Motorcyclist dies in Pan Borneo Highway accident near Suai

MIRI (March 18): A 53-year-old motorcyclist was killed after the machine he was riding collided with a car at KM822 of the Pan Borneo Highway near Suai, Batu Niah, at around 4.30pm on Tuesday.

Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the victim died on the spot while the car’s driver, a 36-year-old man, escaped unhurt.

“The car was travelling from Miri towards Bintulu. Upon reaching the scene, the car is believed to have collided with the motorcycle, which suddenly changed lanes from the left to the right lane to enter a P-turn,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Mohd Farhan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also urged members of the public with information related to the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting traffic investigating officer Insp Nor Afifah Nordin at 019-5264640 or 085-430479, or any nearby police station.

“Road users are advised, especially with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season, to always practise prudent driving and adhere to traffic regulations to avoid endangering other road users,” he added.
