KUCHING (Aug 27): A 23-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car at Jalan Sultan Tengah here at 10.45pm last night.
Kuching district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the incident occurred after the motorcycle lost control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the car.
“The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11.30pm by paramedics from Sarawak General Hospital.
“The driver of the car, on the other hand, did not sustain any injuries,” he said in a statement today.
Farhan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a jail sentence between five and 10 years or a fine between RM20,000 and RM50,000, if found guilty.
He urged members of the public with information about the accident to contact the traffic investigation officer at IPD Kuching, Insp Russell Stetson Junner at 013-8578601 or 082-259900 (BSPTD) Kuching, or any nearby police station.
He also advised members of the public to be cautious while driving on the roads, especially during rainy weather, due to slippery surfaces and other unforeseen factors.
