MPP to implement stricter measures on food establishments

KUCHING, Oct 31: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has announced the immediate implementation of stricter measures to monitor and enforce sanitation regulations for all food establishments under its jurisdiction.

In a press release today, MPP addressed increasing concerns regarding unsanitary conditions and unlicensed food establishments, stating that a comprehensive enforcement policy is necessary to protect consumer health and combat the unsanitary conditions that pose risks to public health.

“Effective immediately, the council will implement stricter measures to monitor and enforce sanitation regulations across all food establishments.

“This policy includes stringent inspections, where our Licensing Section will conduct thorough inspections and grading of food premises to identify violations of health and safety standards. Food establishments classified as unsanitary, below Grade C, or without a grade may face immediate closure to mitigate health risks.

“Closure of non-compliant premises will occur for establishments that consistently fail to meet health standards. Premises that do not fulfill or comply with health and licensing requirements stipulated under Section 23(1)(a) of the PPHO 1999, or achieve a grading below Grade C, are subject to immediate closure for fourteen (14) days in accordance with Section 58 of PPHO 1999.

“The premise operator must take the necessary steps to improve sanitary conditions before being allowed to reopen for business. A similar approach will also be taken against unlicensed food premises,” it stated.

MPP emphasized that establishments found needing improvement will receive compliance orders with a specified timeframe, allowing operators time to implement corrective actions.

“During this period, our team is committed to supporting businesses by offering guidance and follow-up to ensure understanding and adherence to health standards,” the statement concluded. — DayakDaily
