Muara Lassa Bridge earns national recognition, showcases JKR Sarawak’s engineering excellence

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13: The Muara Lassa Bridge in Mukah Division has won the Large Scale Projects category at the Road Engineering Excellence Awards 2026, earning national recognition for the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak.

The award, presented by the Road Engineering Association of Malaysia (REAM), recognises outstanding road engineering projects in Malaysia with a value exceeding RM100 million.

Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi presented the award during the 13th Malaysian Road Conference and Exhibition 2026 and the 6th International Road Federation Global Asia-Pacific Regional Congress in Kuala Lumpur today.

According to a statement, JKR Sarawak also secured a strong showing among the finalists, with four of the nine shortlisted projects under its purview.

Besides the winning Muara Lassa Bridge, the other shortlisted projects were Marudi Bridge, Sebauh Bridge and the access road to the southern area of Kuching International Airport.

The achievement underscores the technical expertise, engineering capabilities and collaborative efforts involved in delivering the Muara Lassa Bridge, while reflecting JKR Sarawak’s continued commitment to improving connectivity through quality infrastructure.

The department also expressed its appreciation to the Sarawak government for its continued support, while congratulating the project teams, consultants, contractors and other partners who contributed to the achievement.

The recognition is expected to further motivate JKR Sarawak to uphold engineering excellence and enhance infrastructure delivery for the benefit of the people. —DayakDaily
