KUCHING, March 16: The Great British Circus is back in Sarawak this year with a brand-new production, Legend of The Sea, promising a high-tech, water-themed circus experience for families and audiences alike.

Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the return of the top live circus show from the United Kingdom demonstrates the State’s growing appeal as a destination for international arts and entertainment.

“Most of the time, we only see circuses on TV or in videos. This is a big opportunity to see them live.

“Families should come, bring your children, and enjoy the performances together. At least your children will get a break from their headphones,” he said at the circus’s launch press conference held at Baitulmakmur 2 building here today.

Abdul Karim also encouraged corporate sponsors to support underprivileged groups such as The Sarawak Cheshire Home and the Kuching Autistic Association by providing tickets so more children can enjoy the circus.

Organised by Big Kid Entertainment (M) Sdn Bhd, Legend of The Sea introduces a thematic storyline about pirates venturing into the depths of the ocean in search of treasure, where they encounter mystical sea creatures and mermaids.

The two-hour family entertainment show features a combination of comedy, stunts, action, acrobatics and dance performed by a cast of international artists from around the world. As a modern circus, the show does not involve animals and instead focuses on theatrical storytelling and large-scale, live performances.

Audiences can also expect water-inspired acts staged in a larger yellow-and-blue Big Top tent featuring a custom-made water stage.

Ticket rates for the Great British Circus in Kuching, running from March 20 to April 21, 2026 at Celebration Square, Sarawak Sports Complex.

The first stop of the Sarawak tour will be in Kuching from March 20 until April 26 at Celebration Square within the Sarawak Sports Complex, Petra Jaya.

Tickets and further announcements on upcoming venues across Sarawak are available at the circus’ official website www.greatbritishcircus.com.

Meanwhile, Great British Circus director Kiril Kirilov said Legend of the Sea is a completely new show compared with their last Sarawak visit in 2024, which drew about 40,000 attendees across Kuching, Miri and Sibu.

“We believe this year’s tour will be even more successful than last year. That’s why we’ve added an extra venue.

“After Kuching, we will go to Sibu, followed by Miri, and then Bintulu, which is a new addition. We hope to attract even more audiences in these cities,” he revealed.

Also present at the press conference were Deputy Minister for Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan; MTCP permanent secretary Morshidi Fredrick; and MTCP special advisor Datuk Sherrina Hussaini. — DayakDaily
