Nangka rep promises brighter roads, longhouses with LED lights

ROADS in the Nangka constituency will be brighter at night as streetlights will have LED bulbs.

Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said the lights would be installed in phases at strategic places in villages and longhouses.

“I have a special allocation for this purpose. I hope the tender process will be completed soon and installation works begin in January or February,” he said at an appreciation ceremony for village security and development committees (JKKKs) in his constituency.

On the monsoon season, Dr Annuar reminded JKKK members at three low- lying areas, namely Kampung Seduan/Kampung Jeriah, Teku and Kampung Hijrah to look out for clogged drains or ditches.

“Inform me if ditches in your area are blocked. Don’t wait until it floods,” he said.

He also refuted allegations that the government was taking away land in Kampung Baharu, Kampung Datu Lama and Kampung Hilir for housing development.

Dr Annuar said the land was procured by the government through Section 48 of the Sarawak Land Code for infrastructure development projects.

He said that without acquiring the land, project implementation would not be feasible.

“The government has to acquire the land because the money used to develop the infrastructure is from the government.

“How can the government enter the land (and implement infrastructure development projects) if it is private land?”

He said 179 units of houses would be built in the three villages. — By ANDY CHUA
