MIRI (Aug 2): National Sports Council (MSN) Management Committee member Alan Ling recently sponsored 10 domestic flight tickets for Miri students, who will be furthering their studies outside of Miri.
On Thursday, four students who just accepted their offers in universities in Kuching and Peninsular Malaysia received their flight tickets from Ling, following the recommendation from L&P Consultant Services who arranged their intakes into the respective universities.
The recipients are David Kong and Andrew Kong, who will be flying to Kuching to study at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus; Mandy Hong, who will be leaving for RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus in Penang; and Megan Tong, who will be going to IMU University in Kuala Lumpur.
“I hope this small gesture can lessen the financial burden of the recipients and their families, as well as help them realise their dreams of achieving tertiary education,” Ling told The Borneo Post.
In his simple address at the handing-over ceremony, he advised the recipients to emphasise virtues such as love for others and foster the spirit of true Malaysians without discrimination.
“These values will definitely help you in the future when you have graduated from your universities.
“Once you are able, do help those in need through charity works or financial support. Let us all create a community where everyone helps one another,” he said.
The Ling’s Family Education Fund manager also urged those in need to apply for the fund online via http://www.lingfamily.my.
The fund, set up by Ling along with his siblings and cousins, is meant to lessen the burden of low-income families who have children studying in higher learning institutions.
Also present to witness the ceremony at the L&P Consultant Services office was its manager Lim Pang Ting.
