KUCHING (Sept 3): A family of six from Kampung Lintang Baru here, who is struggling to make ends meet, is receiving regular basic food supplies from Hope Place Kuching.

According to the charitable non-governmental organisation (NGO), Razuna Jamali and her husband Ramli, 45, have four children aged four to 17.

“Ramli works as a daily paid labourer earning below RM1,000 monthly, while Razuna works at a bird’s nest factory, also receiving daily pay, which is below the minimum wage.

“The couple does their best in earning enough for their children, two of whom are schooling,” said Hope Place in a statement yesterday, issued following a recent visit to the family.

Hope Place quoted Razuna as saying that her younger children, who are not schooling yet, are being taken care of by their grandmother when the couple are both at work.

“As the couple is not making enough money to bring food to the table, they plant some vegetables and collect wild vegetables for consumption,” said Hope Place.

“Sometimes, Ramli and his eldest son will go fishing at the nearby river, and with luck, able to have fish for their dinner. Living in a dilapidated wooden house, their home is always prone to flooding.

“To save even more, Razuna mostly uses firewood as fuel for her cooking.”

Hope Place extended gratitude to volunteers, who ‘understand the needs of people and have a big heart for the local community’.

The NGO welcomes all donations and will issue receipt upon request.
