Niah man pleads guilty to abusing drugs, fined RM2,000

MIRI (Aug 14): A man was fined RM2,000 in default two months in jail after he pleaded guilty at the Magistrates’ Court here today to abusing drugs.

Irfang Tangkilang, 32, from Niah made the plea before Magistrate Sandy Yvette Freddy, who also ordered him to undergo two years of supervision by the authorities.

The charge against the accused was framed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.

The Section provides imprisonment for up to two years or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, and immediate supervision for a period not exceeding three years, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, Irfang was tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine at the Miri Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office around 2.25pm on April 18, 2024.

In mitigation, the accused pleaded for leniency as it was his first offence.

Prosecuting was Insp Mudzilawati Abdul Rahman.
