KUCHING (Sept 26): A police raid on premises suspected of running illegal lottery sales in Sri Aman on Wednesday led to the arrest of seven individuals.
Sri Aman police chief DSP Mathew Manggi said the suspects, aged between 21 and 33, were nabbed during the Op Dadu operation, which was carried out simultaneously at seven premises starting at 3.30pm.
“The suspects, including three women and one foreigner, are believed to be selling lottery tickets without a licence.
“Seized during the operation were items and paraphernalia used by the suspect to carry out the activity,” he said in a statement today.
He added the operation was the result of public complaints that business premises in Sri Aman were being used to sell illegal lottery tickets.
Mathew said those arrested were taken to the district police headquarters for further investigation under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
