Police inspect a motorcycle during the operation.
MIRI (March 9): Police seized 10 motorcycles and issued 40 summonses during an ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ focused around Jalan Piasau, Jalan Miri Bypass, Jalan Marina and Jalan Tanjong Lobang here last weekend.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation, held between 4pm on Saturday and 2am on Sunday, was carried out following public complaints regarding motorcycle activities that disrupted traffic flow and public order.
“During the operation, a total of 22 individuals comprising 20 men and two women were inspected along with 15 motorcycles,” he said in the statement.
He added that checks revealed various offences, including riding without a valid licence, structural modifications to motorcycles, modified exhausts producing excessive noise, absence of side mirrors, no registration numbers, the use of fancy registration plates and other technical offences.
The motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further action.
Mohd Farhan stressed that the police will not compromise with individuals involved in street racing activities that could endanger themselves and other road users.
He also advised members of the public to comply with traffic laws, avoid illegal vehicle modifications and refrain from activities that could disturb public order.
Mohd Farhan called on those with any information on street racing activities to channel it to Miri District Police Headquarters for further action.
