MIRI (March 2): Police here seized 10 motorcycles and issued 40 summonses issued during ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ conducted from 11pm on Saturday until 4am on Sunday.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation was carried out by Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri) following public complaints on motorcycle activities disrupting traffic flow and public order.
The operation, held around Jalan Piasau, Jalan Miri Bypass, Jalan Marina and Jalan Tanjong Lobang, involved inspections of 25 individuals—20 men and five women—and 20 motorcycles.
“Inspection found various offences, including riding without a licence, structural modifications, modified exhausts producing excessive noise, absence of side mirrors, no registration number, use of fancy plates and other technical offences,” he said in a statement posted on Miri District Police Facebook page.
He said the motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further action.
Mohd Farhan stressed that the police will not compromise with individuals involved in street racing activities that endanger themselves and other road users.
He advised them to comply with road laws, avoid illegal modifications, and refrain from activities that disturb public order.
Members of the public are encouraged to channel information on such activities to IPD Miri for further action.
