KUCHING (Oct 2): A total of 200 fighters will participate in the TYT Cup Muay Thai Championships 2024 at the Amphitheatre, Jalan Budaya here from Oct 4 to 6.
Sarawak State Muay Thai Association (PMNS) president Jumaat Ibrahim was quoted in a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) that it is a ‘global tournament’ as it is recognised by the International Federation of Muay Thai Associations (IFMA).
“The TYT Cup has been held for the past eight years and has become a traditional event in celebrating Sarawak, attracting participants from both within and outside the state.
“So, this is the special aspect of Muay Thai, and indirectly, we are not only promoting the sport and discovering new talents among Sarawakians but also promoting the state to the world,” he said after a courtesy call on the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at the Astana Negeri yesterday.
The event will kick off with an introductory session for local and international participants at the Waterfront Amphitheatre on October 3 at 8.00pm followed by the start of the tournament on Oct 4. Among the highlights on Oct 5 will be activities held in collaboration with the Sarawak Health Department (JKNS), including the Fun Walk Muay Thai Tour Kuching 2024, health screenings, a mobile dental clinic, services by the Counseling and Psychology Unit and blood donation drives.
These activities will run from 6.30am to 2pm to be followed by muaythai matches throughout the evening, culminating in a professional bout. The remaining fights on the final day (Oct 6) will conclude by noon with Wan Junaidi expected to officiate the event.
