KUCHING (Sept 17): Over 7,000 people participated in the Lawas district-level Maulidul Rasul 2024 celebrations at Padang Dataran Lawas and Taman Awam Lawas on Monday.
Deputy Premier Datuk Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, accompanied by his wife Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, led the Maulidul Rasul parade, which comprised 41 contingents representing schools, government departments and agencies as well as mosques and suraus.
Also present were Lawas MP Dato Henry Sum Agong, Northern Region Development Agency director Datu Ubaidillah Abdul Latif, Lawas district officer Ladin Atok and a political secretary to the Premier, Awangku Jinal Abedin Pengiran Jawa.
Speaking at the programme, Awang Tengah said he was proud to witness the participation of many people for this event in Lawas.
He pledged for a bigger celebration next year with notable figures in various fields to be invited to motivate and become role models to the people especially the younger generation.
“Hopefully the effect of the Maulidur Rasul celebration this year will benefit us in accordance with the theme of Sarawak Maju Makmur, as today we also celebrate Malaysia Day.
“Hopefully our country will continue to be peaceful and progress forward,” he said.
He also said that Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is taking example of the Madinah Charter in Sarawak’s governance, especially in social relations, economy, relations between races and religions and so on.
“This year, Sarawak chose the theme ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’ as the slogan for the Sarawak Day celebration. This slogan is quite meaningful because it symbolises all of our hopes.
“It is our collective responsibility to strive towards advancing the future of Sarawak by increasing productivity, staying competitive and creating a clean, healthy and resilient environment that will last for generations to come,” he said.
During the event, the Anugerah Tokoh Maulidur Rasul 1446H/2024M (Men’s category) was awarded to Awang Ibrahim Ahmad and Suriyah Jinin for the Women’s category.
