MIRI (Dec 14): A total of RM525,910 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocations had been distributed to 71 community organisations, associations, and religious bodies here.

The funds were part of an ongoing initiative to support grassroots programmes that would foster unity, community wellbeing, and public service.

State Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who presented the allocations on Saturday, said the annual grants were meant to empower local groups to carry out meaningful activities that contribute to social harmony.

“These organisations play a vital role in promoting unity and inclusiveness within our multiracial and multireligious society,” said the Senadin assemblyman.

He added that this financial assistance – the last batch of his MRP allocations for the year – served as recognition of the groups’ continued contributions and also intended to encourage them to remain actively engaged in serving their respective communities.

Lee also noted that the recipients played an important role in advancing Sarawak’s vision of inclusive growth.

In his address, the state minister called upon the public to continue upholding Sarawak’s long-standing values of tolerance, mutual respect, and shared celebration among its diverse communities.
