KUCHING (Oct 31): All epoxy flake flooring in the 3rd Mile Market is to be removed and a rectification method statement will be submitted to Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) for approval, said the council’s chairman Tan Kai.

He said a contractor had been directed to remove the epoxy flake flooring in the market which had been damaged shortly after the market was reopened following some upgrades.

“The council will keep the hawkers at the 3rd Mile Market regularly informed on the progress of the rectification work,” said Tan after visiting the market today to address public complaints regarding the flooring.

He added that the water seepage beneath the epoxy layer had weakened its bond, causing it to peel.

“We acknowledged that the selection of the epoxy flake anti-slip coating was incorrect, as it was proposed by the contractor and the first time the council is using epoxy flake anti-slip coating for market flooring.

“Consequently, payment will be withheld from the contractor until the defect has been rectified,” he said, noting that the project is funded by the federal Ministry of Housing and Local Government Malaysia, which has mandated that all markets must have anti-slip flooring.

He also added that as of Oct 25, upgrading works on the market was at 86 per cent completed, with the project scheduled to finish by this Nov 14.

For any inquiries, the public can contact MPP market staff by calling MPP hotline at 082-615566, or send a WhatsApp message to 013-802 5566.
