ADVERTISE HERE
KUCHING (Oct 1): The Malaysian Institute of Architects Sarawak Chapter (PAMSC) will be hosting the (PDF) 2024 from Oct 18-19 at The Theatre Hotel here.
PAMSC in a statement said this year’s festival will feature several key events including the Design Forum, Trade Expo, University Best Project Competition, Secondary Sculpture Model Competition, Young Architect’s Dialogue, PAMSC Members’ Networking Night and the Urban Installation Launching Night.
“PDF is held annually in conjunction with World Architecture Day, which falls on the first Monday of October. We aim to benefit local architects and those interested in architecture by inviting international architects to share their design philosophies and knowledge,” it said.
According to PAMSC vice chairman and PDF 2024 organising chairman Lau Chun Leong, the festival aims to raise public awareness and provide information on architects and their work.
He noted that similar Design Forums are often held in the Peninsula, which can be financially challenging for young architects and especially so for recent graduates.
“Without company sponsorship, many are unable to attend due to the cost. To address this, PAMSC seeks to benefit its members and local architects by organising the Design Forum locally,” he said.
The Design Forum will take place on Oct 19 from 8am-5.30pm and will feature eight speakers — Ng Chin Yong from 10 Design (Hong Kong); James Shen from People’s Architecture (United States of America); Feng Guochuan (China); Tran Thi Ngu Ngon and Nguyen Hai Long from Tropical Space (Vietnam); Nattapong Phattanagosai and Donlaporn Chanachai from Cloud Floor (Thailand); and Eddie Putera (Malaysia).
This year’s theme, ‘Reimagining Urbanscapes’, will explore how art and architecture can create imaginative, vibrant and meaningful urban environments — from miniature urban spaces to expansive urban projects.
The forum will discuss innovative designs that build community and identity.
The event is supported by main sponsor iMetal, alongside industry partners such as Kansai Paint, Pentens, Feruni, Lifkon, Vitally, Borneo Green Universal, GHS Designs, Solid Base Trading Sdn Bhd, Xingyu, Gucini, Saint Gobain, SP.ace, Kaisu, Mapei and Niro Granite.
It is backed by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability.
