KUCHING: Head coach Razmi Amit has praised the state para archery team for their resilience in reaching the quarterfinals and expressed hope that tomorrow’s individual event will yield medals, especially from standout performer Nur Ezzatul Farishah Busrah.

Although the para archery team had to accept the outcome after failing to advance to the finals in the recurve open mixed and recurve women’s double (70 meters) categories today (Sept 24), Razmi said that the team had shown determination in advancing to that quarter-finals in both categories.

“For tomorrow’s (Sept 25) event, our athletes will compete in the men’s and women’s individual categories, and we hope they will achieve success.

“At the same time, we are pinning our hopes on the women’s individual category, represented by Nur Ezzatul Farishah Busrah, to secure a medal for Sarawak,” he said when met by reporters at Lapangan Sasar Memanah, Petra Jaya here today (Sept 24).

He also hopes the people of Sarawak will continue to support and pray for the two home athletes who will be competing tomorrow (Sept 25).

“We will be competing against strong contenders from Pahang, Kedah, Terengganu, and Perak, and we will do our best to secure at least a bronze medal,” he said.

For the record, the recurve open mixed category saw Sarawak, represented by Nur Ezzatul Farishah Busrah and Gillbelson Alvin Manan, defeated by Sabah’s Jaynie Jamiran and Charlie Jikulis with a score of 6-0.

In the finals, Pahang will face Sabah for the gold medal, while Kuala Lumpur will face Perak for the bronze.

Meanwhile, for recurve women’s double category, Sarawak, represented by Nur Ezzatul and Dang Ratna Dewi Kalong, lost to Perak’s Norismaliza Suhidi and Rosliza Ismail with a score of 6-2.

The final match will see Pahang competing against Kedah for the gold medal, and Perak against Sabah for the bronze.
