KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is preparing for the party’s 16th general assembly, scheduled for the end of January or early February next year.
Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the theme for the assemblywill be ‘PBB Tonggak Kestabilan, Kemajuan dan Kelestarian (PBB: The Pillar of Stability, Progress, and Sustainability)’.
He said that branch meetings across all the party’s 82 divisions are currently underway, with one division having already completed its meeting.
“There are still 81 divisions left, and we hope they will complete their respective meeting by December,” he told reporters after the PBB supreme council meeting chaired by Premier and PBB president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night (Sept 30).
Nanta, who is the Works Minister, said that the 82 divisions will be divided into four zones to streamline the process.
“For the southern zone, it will be coordinated by Deputy Prime Minister and PBB senior vice president Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
“Meanwhile, the Betong zone is led by Deputy Premier and PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas,” he said.
Nanta added he will oversee the central zone, while Deputy Premier and PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Tengah Ali Hassan will manage the northern zone.
“The party president will officiate at each division meetings of these zones, whichwill take place in December,” he said, adding that next year’s general assembly will also see an election session for the next term of the party committee.
When asked about potential contests for positions, he said it depends on the nominations.
“If there are no nominations, there won’t be any contests. However, if nominations are submitted, then there will definitely be contests,” he said.
