KUCHING (March 4): Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) has debunked talks on social media that it is planning to work together with Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak in the coming state election.

Its information chief Sigie Badang said PBDS is currently independent and its stance is “standing alone — no coalition, no collaboration”.

“There is no official announcement done by PBDS on this matter,” he said when asked for clarification yesterday.

Sigie in a separate press release also said PBDS was “clearly and unequivocally on its own”.

“We are a party on our own. PBDS stands independently, and makes decisions based on the interests, rights, and future of the Dayak community. Our direction is guided by our constitution, principles, and the mandate of our members.

“We have not spoken to anybody about anything. There have been no discussions, negotiations, or agreements with any political party or individual regarding alliances, mergers, or political arrangements,” he said, adding that any claims suggesting otherwise were speculative and unfounded.

However, he said PBDS was open to any offer of collaboration in the future but would “cross that bridge when the situation presents itself”.

He said PBDS remained focused on strengthening Dayak grassroots and preparing its election machinery.

“Should any future political developments arise, we will evaluate them carefully and make decisions at the appropriate time in the best interest of our struggle,” he said.

The Borneo Post is also reaching out to DAP for its reaction and comments over the matter.
