SIBU (Sept 16): The grand Mooncake Festival celebration at SMI Park in Sungai Bidut here last night drew a crowd of about 1,000 people, according to Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) senior vice president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

The Bawang Assan assemblyman noted that the gathering included former Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) members who have joined the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), as well as existing PDP members.

“This large-scale gathering of over 1,000 PDP members is the first ever in the rural area since we joined PDP.

“It brought together former PSB members who are now part of PDP, along with current PDP members, for a grand celebration,” he said.

The event was organised by PDP Engkilo Service Committee. Among those present were event organising chairperson Ling Leh Eng, PDP Bawang Assan chairman Kapitan Wong Hua and local PDP leaders Datuk Janet Lau, Wong Hie Ping.

Wong stressed on the importance of unity among party members.

“Tonight (last night), most of the attendees are party members and comrades, numbering about 1,000. These individuals are primarily from the rural areas of Sungai Bidut, Engkilo, Sungai Sadit, Lebaan, and Paradom.

“We hope that we stay united, and we continue to work together as a big united family. This will ensure PDP continues to serve in Bawang Assan area in the future.”

On the festival, Wong delved into the symbolism of the mooncake.

He mentioned that round shape of the moon represents family reunions.

However, he noted that just as the moon wanes, one should not be discouraged but continue to work hard, as eventually, the moon will become full again, symbolising unity and togetherness.

Both Wong Hua and Ling also spoke at the event.
