MIRI (Dec 14): A 36-year-old foreign woman was killed after being hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the road towards Kampung Wireless here on Friday night.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the incident occurred at about 11.30pm when the victim was struck by a vehicle travelling from Miri Airport towards Krokop.
“Initial investigations found that upon reaching Jalan Kampung Wireless, the driver is believed to have hit the pedestrian, who was in the middle of the road and attempting to cross towards Kampung Wireless.
“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the vehicle did not suffer any injuries,” he said in a statement late Saturday.
Mohd Farhan added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He also called on members of the public with information related to the incident to come forward to assist investigations by contacting traffic investigating officer Insp Mohd Faizul Ab Rahim at 014-8582582 or 085-430479, or any nearby police station.
He further advised road users to exercise caution at all times and to comply with traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
