Pedestrian killed in suspected hit-and-run in Bintulu

BINTULU (Oct 8): A 31-year-old pedestrian was killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident near Loji Laku, Jalan Nyabau here at 5am today.

Bintulu police chief Superintendent Nixon Joshua Ali said the victim had been crossing the road when he was hit by a vehicle.

“Paramedics from the Health Ministry confirmed the victim died at the scene after he was found lying on the right lane of the road,” he said.

Nixon said they received initial information that the vehicle had been heading towards Kidurong from the Mile 6 traffic light junction before it hit the victim.

“We believe the vehicle fled after hitting the victim,” he said, adding the police are conducting a detailed investigation to locate the vehicle and the suspect.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
