Petra Jaya man who elbowed wife in the face gets four months’ jail

KUCHING (Sept 26): A 42-year-old man who elbowed his wife in the face was today sentenced in the Magistrates’ Court here to four months in jail.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali meted out the sentence on Awang Faridd Shah Awang Zainuddin after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Act.

The Section provides for a jail term of up to one year, or a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both.

Awang Faridd hurt his 45-year-old wife at a house in a Petra Jaya village at 4.14pm on Sept 17.

Based on the facts of the case, Awang Faridd’s wife heard him scolding their child and tried to calm him down.

Her actions however caused him to instead elbow her in the face until she suffered injuries, including a bloody ear.

The victim lodged a police report which led to Awang Faridd’s arrest early the next day at 1.58am.

During his arrest, he tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

The investigation found Awang Faridd had hurt his wife by elbowing her.

The wife’s medical report stated that the attack left her with lacerations on her left ear area.

ASP Arman Ibrahim handled the prosecution while Awang Faridd did not have legal representation.
