KUCHING, May 23: A new Petrosains Satellite Centre is expected to open in Kuching after the middle of this year through a partnership with the Sarawak Science Centre (SSC) to promote interactive science education in Sarawak.
According to a TVS news report, Petrosains Stakeholder Relations and Communications director Shamini Balan said preparations for the centre are currently in the final stages, with a pre-launch expected after mid-2026.
“The Kuching centre would offer experiences similar to those available at Petrosains Suria KLCC in Kuala Lumpur, while incorporating local community elements in Sarawak,” she said.
She said this during the ‘One’derland A.R.I.F programme held at Petrosains Suria KLCC today in conjunction with celebrations for the birthday of Petrosains’ educational mascot, A.R.I.F (Rakan Berkuasa dan Pintar).
The school holiday programme, running until June 7 features various interactive activities aimed at encouraging children to develop an interest in science and environmental awareness.
She said this year’s themed school holiday programme promotes awareness of planets and environmental care through hands-on activities including face painting, A.R.I.F mask-making and family-oriented educational workshops.
Shamini added that A.R.I.F was created as a positive influence for the community, particularly younger generations, to inspire continuous learning and exploration of science and the environment.
The upcoming Kuching centre will complement Petrosains’ existing four Satellite Centres in Johor Bahru, Kuantan and Kota Kinabalu, where A.R.I.F is expected to make appearances throughout the locations. — DayakDaily
