PMX: Tun dr Siti Hasmah to be accorded state funeral honours

KUCHING: Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali will be accorded funeral honours befitting a national dignitary following her passing on Monday (Sept 28), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced.

Anwar said he had directed the Chief Secretary to the Government and Chief of Defence Force to assist with the arrangements for the funeral ceremony.

The announcement came as tributes continued to pour in for Tun Siti Hasmah, who passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur earlier today around 9.20am at the age of 100.

“On behalf of the MADANI Government and all Malaysians, I express our sorrow and condolences over the passing of the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali,” Anwar said in a media statement.

He said the country would continue to remember her maternal presence and honour the contributions she had made throughout her life.

Anwar also extended his condolences to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the rest of the family as they mourned the loss.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the entire family during this difficult time,” he said.

Tun Siti Hasmah’s passing was earlier confirmed by her son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir.

The announcement that she would receive national dignitary funeral honours adds a formal final tribute to a figure whose life spanned medicine, public service and decades alongside one of Malaysia’s longest-serving political figures.
