SIBU (Oct 13): Political stability and social harmony in a multi-ethnic society are crucial as the nation is progressing quickly in development, said Bawang Assan assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.
He said the spirit of unity should be fostered among the people.
“We only have one country and it is home to all of us. We must live like one big family, taking care of each other for our collective good. We must realise no community can live in harmony separately or alone,” he said when officiating the Madani Community Programme for the Bawang Assan constituency at Rumah Unjah Besh, Sungai Melanggan today.
Also present were Sibu District information officer Zaini Morshidi, Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sibu assistant environmental control officer Timah Beskop, National Security Council (MKN) Sibu branch head Nur Shahirah Samsul and Social Security Organisation (Socso) Sibu executive officer Edricia Crister.
Wong said the Madani Government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak government, with the slogan ‘People First’, under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg aims to enhance political unity and stability for the nation’s harmony and in pursuit of common ground for the good of the country.
He said to achieve such goals, each layer of society must build trust regardless of race, religion and culture.
“At the same time, we must encourage collaborations, stand together and assist each other according to our abilities, enhancing understanding and good relations. We must always be considerate towards one another as one nation with a shared destiny and goals. As I said, we are one big family.
“A harmonious family can grow and prosper, while a divided family will face the consequences and become very weak. Let us work closely together to benefit everyone and the future generations,” he said.
Meanwhile, the programme organised by the Information Department included talks from MKN, NREB and Socso.
