KUCHING: Pertubuhan Pembangunan Insan Sarawak (PPIS), in collaboration with the Lions Club of Kuching Unity, hosted a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Mini Medical Camp at the MATTA Fair here this morning (Aug 31).

PPIS chairwoman Manjeet Kaur Sidhu said the two-day event, held in conjunction with the National Day celebration, aims to bring attention to the importance of health and wellness through various activities and services.

“This CSR initiative is about raising awareness on the importance of taking care of your health. By donating blood, for example, you are actually saving three lives with just one pint,” she explained.

The programme features a range of free health services, including screenings provided by Borneo Medical Center (BMC).

“It’s crucial to have general check-ups to monitor your glucose levels, blood pressure, cholesterol and BMI. Sometimes, early detection of these health indicators can go a long way in preventing more severe health issues.”

In addition to health screenings, the event also includes participation from Kingdom Pharmacy, which is showcasing a variety of health-based products, such as supplements that help boost immunity.

“One of the key highlights of the programme is the organ donation pledge drive facilitated by Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). There’s a critical need for organ donation, and donating your organs can save many lives. This is something we hope people will consider seriously,” she added.

The CSR programme, she said, is expected to draw a significant crowd over the two days, given its location at MATTA Fair with a target of 200 participants per day, but based on their last camp where they’ve aimed for 300 and ended up with 800.

“With hundreds of people expected to turn up at the fair, we hope this initiative will not only raise awareness but also inspire more people to take charge of their health and contribute to saving lives,” she said.
