KUCHING (March 4): Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his daughter Puan Dayang Norjihan attended a breaking-of-fast ceremony with the Sarawak Orphans Welfare Board (Peryatim) Kuching branch at the Kompleks Satria Pertiwi here on Tuesday.
The event, which also included congregational prayers, was attended by other dignitaries and 63 children under the care of Peryatim Kuching.
According to a statement from the Sarawak Premier’s Office, the annual iftar programme with Peryatim was previously held at the organisation’s own premises during the tenure of its former advisor, the late Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
Following her passing, Dayang Norjihan assumed the role of Peryatim advisor, continuing the legacy and welfare initiatives established under her late mother’s leadership.
This year’s event marked a new chapter as it was held for the first time at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi.
Upon arrival, Abang Johari and his daughter were received by corporate figure Tan Sri Bustari Yusof and wife, as well as Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha and chairman of Peryatim’s Board of Trustees.
The programme began with a brief ‘tahlil’ led by Ustaz Kasdinata Hashim, followed by the breaking-of-fast and congregational prayers.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of personal contributions from the Premier and his family to the 63 Peryatim children as a gesture of care and compassion.
The event concluded with a moreh supper after Tarawih prayers.
The organisers expressed their appreciation to the Premier and his family for spending time with the children and attending the programme.
They also recorded their gratitude to the late Juma’ani for her invaluable service and lifelong dedication to Peryatim.
