KUCHING (March 3): A spirit of reflection and compassion marked the breaking of fast and congregational prayer event with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, where Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) hosted 16 orphans and special needs children from Pusat Kebajikan Jumaani at Satria Pertiwi Complex on Monday.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the children were all smiles as they received contributions personally presented by Abang Johari following the breaking of fast.

The contributions symbolised the state government’s ongoing concern and support for those in need, especially during the month of Ramadan.

Abang Johari’s presence reflected the state leadership’s commitment to engaging with the community and promoting values of welfare, empathy, and unity.

Earlier, he joined other dignitaries in performing the Maghrib prayer in congregation.

The programme continued with Isyak and Tarawih prayers before concluding with a moreh reception, fostering a spirit of togetherness.

Also present were Abang Johari’s daughter Dayang Norjihan; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; State Deputy Minister for Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Ibrahim Baki; State Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni; State Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil; State Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya; Political Secretary to the Premier Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman; DBKU mayor Dato Hilmy Othman; heads of departments; and other guests.
