MIRI (Sept 18): Sarawak’s revenue this year is expected to surpass last year’s figure, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said a detailed announcement would be made this November.

“There are indications that our revenue this year is higher than the previous year. We will announce it in November.

“Wait for it (to be announced) in November,” he told a press conference after officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed dredging and associated works project at Batang Baram Delta at Miri Port Authority in Kuala Baram today.

Sarawak recorded RM13.3 billion revenue for the year 2023, which was an increase of RM200 million from the previous year.

Abang Johari said that the World Bank also recognised Sarawak as a high income state for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024.

“I have a feeling that we might achieve this recognition again in 2025,” he added.

He said that he remained optimistic that Sarawak’s economy will continue to grow, driven by the various development projects taking place across the state.

He pointed out that with the current economic state, the Sarawak government would be able to further boost development especially in rural areas.

“This will increase the household income of those in rural areas,” he said.
