KUCHING (Oct 7): The Borneo International Water and Wastewater Exhibition and Conference (BIWWEC) 2024 is set to take place from Oct 23 to 25, marking a significant milestone for the regional water sector.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will deliver the keynote address and officially open the event.
The conference will gather leading experts and innovators to tackle pressing challenges in water and wastewater management, in line with the Malaysian Water Association Sarawak (MWAS) and Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Sarawak’s efforts to support sustainable development in Sarawak.
In line with Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, BIWWEC acknowledges a projected increase in water demand – rising from the current usage of 2,060 million liters (MLD) per day to 4,460 MLD by 2030, according to the Sarawak Water Supply and Water Grid Master Plan announced in May 2024.
This event plays a vital role in uniting industry experts to explore sustainable solutions that will prepare Sarawak for its future water needs.
Among the dynamic sessions at BIWWEC are ‘Women as Water Leaders – The Unseen Currents’, which is a panel addressing the crucial yet often overlooked contributions of women in water leadership and management; and ‘Young Water Professionals: Leading the Charge for a Sustainable Future’, a showcase of innovative ideas and passionate initiatives from the next generation of water professionals dedicated to shaping sustainable water management strategies.
BIWWEC 2024 will also feature strategic partnerships with MUT and Kuching Water Board to hold the Sarawak Utility and Telecommunication Conference (SUTCon) 2024 and the Malaysia Water Industry Human Resources (MyWINHR) 2024 concurrently.
BIWWEC 2024 is expected to receive close to 1,000 delegates from various sectors and water industries, over 60 exhibitors, and more than 50 speakers covering the conference pillars of Blue Financing, Governance and Policy, Digital Innovations, Water-Energy Nexus and Resilient Infrastructure.
This event offers a unique opportunity to share invaluable knowledge and establish new partnerships.
The conference will serve as a vital platform for collaboration, showcasing cutting-edge solutions, and enhancing connections within the water management sector.
