KUCHING (Oct 7): Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is saddened by the passing of the late Puan Sri Datin Sri Elizabeth Pawa, whom he described as a close family friend.
Speaking to reporters after paying his last respects to the late Pawa, Abang Johari said he had become close to the late Pawa’s family when her late husband Tan Sri Celestine Ujang was the then Youth chief in Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).
“When the late Tan Sri Celestine Ujang was PBB Youth chief, I was his deputy. Our families became very close, including with the late Puan Sri Elizabeth Pawa,” he said.
The late Pawa is also the mother-in-law of Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is secretary general in PBB, which is now headed by Abang Johari as president.
Abang Johari and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang arrived at the late Pawa’s residence at 3.30pm and were greeted by Nanta and his wife Datin Sri Angelina Ujang and other family members.
He then signed the condolence book before leaving.
“Condolences to the family for their loss. I hope the family members are steadfast and patient, we pray for her soul to rest in peace,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nanta thanked Abang Johari and Juma’ani for taking time to visit and pay their last respects to his mother-in-law, who had passed away last Sunday.
“Indeed, the presence of YAB Premier and his wife is very meaningful to me and my wife, Datin Sri Angelina Ujang and all our family members in dealing with this loss,” he said.
