PADAWAN: Four Community Rehabilitation Organisations (PPDK) in the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency will join forces to organise the 2024 PPDK Community Carnival on Oct 26.
PPDK Mambong, Siburan, Teng Bukap and Siniawan will come together to stage the event at the Kampung Bratan/Asah Multipurpose Hall, Jalan Puncak Borneo.
Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin said the main purpose of holding the carnival was to strengthen friendship among PPDK trainees and the local community, in addition to spreading awareness about the role and services offered by PPDK to the community.
He said, apart from that, it also aims to strengthen community relations between PPDK residents in the Mambong, Serumbu and Tarat areas with the local community.
“It is also to provide a platform for the trainees so that they have the opportunity to show their talents in events such as singing competitions, uniform, make-up competitions and sports.
Through this programme, it is hoped that the community will be more aware of the existence of PPDK and the important role played by PPDK in helping the disabled through various rehabilitation and education programs,” he told the media before the carnival organiser’s committee meeting here Sunday.
He added that this activity includes people with special abilities so that they do not feel excluded from society.
He said, among the activities throughout the carnival were aerobics, sports competitions for children and adults, performances from PPDP trainees, sales and exhibition boths, lucky number draws, karaoke sessions and performances by guest artists.
Accordingly, he called on the public to come in large numbers to support the carnival.
The main sponsor of the carnival is the Puncak Borneo Parliament Service Center, DUN Tarat Service Center, DUN Mambong Service, DUN Serembu Service Centre in collaboration with the Kuching Division Social Welfare Office.
The other sponsors are L.Y.A Group Construction Sdn Bhd, Little Canteen Kopitiam, Big Grain Capital Sdn Bhd and Nakdari Group Sdn Bhd.
At the ceremony, Willie also presented a grant of RM20,000 for the cost of organising the carnival to the chairman of PPDK Mambong Razali Jamian.
Meanwhile, Willie urged all four PPDK to identify suitable sites for the construction of their respective buildings.
He said, PPDK Mambong and Siburan have already acquired a plot of land for their respective building sites, which has been approved by the Land and Survey Department.
“By having your own building, apart from being a place for organising activities, I also suggest creating a shop space for PPDK members to do business there,” he said.
He suggested that each PPDK produce at least four or five products to be sold in PPDK stores that are developed later.
He added that from next year he will give equal funds to the four PPDK to enable them to organise their respective activities.
