KUCHING (March 2): A total of 300 ‘asnaf’ (those eligible to receive welfare aid) from 15 villages under the Daro state constituency received contributions during the ‘Santunan Asnaf Ramadan Al-Mubarak 1447H’ programme, held at Masjid Al-Muhsinin.
According to Daro assemblyman Dr Safiee Ahmad, this initiative was part of sustained efforts in safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable groups, and particularly for this period, it meant to help them observe the fasting month more comfortably.
“Ramadan is not merely a time of abstinence, but also a period that reminds society to nurture patience, self-reflection and empathy towards those facing hardship.
“Ramadan teaches us the values of patience, repentance and compassion towards those who are less fortunate.
“Therefore, it is our shared responsibility to ensure that the ‘asnaf’ are not marginalised, but for us to be able to share with them the blessings and joy of fasting,” he said, as reported by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
Safiee, also chairman of Daro Malay Welfare Trust Board (LAKMD), expressed his appreciation to all parties involved in making the programme a success, including those from government agencies, charity organisations and private companies that had consistently stepped forward to assist the needy groups.
“Beyond providing essential supplies, such initiatives help reinforce social bonds and foster a stronger sense of unity among the people of Daro.
“The assistance delivered today may not be much, but I hope it would help ease the burden off the recipients and bring some joy to them and their families throughout Ramadan.
“More importantly, it is the spirit of togetherness and compassion that we must continue to nurture within our community,” he added.
Later, Safiee presented cash contributions and dates to the ‘asnaf’, as well as 5kg rice packs sponsored by Daro Freshmart Prosper Sdn Bhd.
There was also a ‘tazkirah’ (talk session) on ‘Ramadan Builds the Strength of the Ummah’, presented by Daro District Islamic Affairs officer Anas Sarip.
lso present were Mukah Resident Datu Kueh Lei Poh, Daro District officer Zul Usup, Matu-Daro District police chief DSP Rahim Mihos, and DFM Prosper managing director Ting Yew Chai.
