EDUCATION will continue to be a top priority in the Bukit Assek constituency, says its assemblyman Joseph Chieng.

He said there were instances where applications for school maintenance were not approved by Education Ministry.

“I will allocate rural transformation project (RTP) funds for the basic maintenance of schools,” he said at the 2023 SK Nanga Salim dinner in Sibu, Sarawak.

“We cannot ignore the state of severe damage in our schools,” he added.

Chieng said he would work with the schools and Sibu District Education Office to ensure efforts to improve education in the Bukit Assek area could be implemented effectively.

He described teachers as the backbone of community development, imparting knowledge and instilling good morals and values.

“Teachers’ contribution to society is far greater than can be calculated.

“Teachers shape the future generation, guide them through challenges and prepare them to face the outside world,” he said.

Also present was SK Nanga Salim headmistress Siti Bohari.
