Police arrest the suspect at a premises along Jalan Abang Galau, Bintulu.
BINTULU (March 17): Police have arrested a local man in connection with a motorcycle theft case at Bintulu Sentral on Monday.
Bintulu district police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the 42-year-old suspect was detained by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Bintulu District Police Headquarters during an operation carried out based on intelligence.
“The suspect was tracked down and arrested at about 4pm at a premises along Jalan Abang Galau, Bintulu,” he said in a statement.
Police also recovered a motorcycle believed to belong to the complainant, which had earlier been reported stolen, along with several other items to assist in the investigation.
Checks further revealed that the suspect is a repeat offender with previous records related to vehicle theft cases.
The suspect has been remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of between one and seven years, as well as a possible fine upon conviction.
Nixon said the swift action taken by police personnel demonstrates the authorities’ proactive efforts in tracking down individuals involved in criminal activities.
He emphasised that the police remain steadfast in their efforts to combat property crimes and will not compromise with any party that threatens public safety.
He also advised the public to remain vigilant by ensuring the safety of their homes and vehicles, and to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the police to help safeguard peace and security in the Bintulu district.
