Report crimes and share information

KUCHING: The district police headquarters (IPD) has urged the local community to promptly report any crimes occurring in their respective areas.

However, should they choose not to file a formal police report, they are encouraged to share pertinent information directly with the police.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah gave this advice after launching the first Chill and Relax (CnR) programme at the Kuching IPD today (May 7).

He was asked to comment on community members not wanting to report burglaries due to the perceived insignificance of their stolen belongings.

“Please lodge police reports regarding such crimes, and if you choose not to, please share information with us to enable a swift and effective police response.

“If you do not want to file a detailed report, you can make a brief report.

“Always share information with us. If you are suspicious of any individuals or activities in your area, please alert the police so that it can lead to bigger success,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, on the issue of drugs being dumped in neighbourhoods, Ahsmon pointed out that a common issue among residents is their reluctance to engage with authorities or confront these people to stop dumping drugs.

It is common for a certain group to frequently dump drugs in the neighborhood, and buyers would scour the area to look for the cache.

“Now, we have a team specifically tasked to hunt down these individuals responsible for dumping the drug cache or looking for the drug cache in neighbourhood areas.

“Please continue to share information with the police so that we can curb and eradicate such drug activity,” he said.
