KUCHING, May 10: The RM248 million Bebuling New Airport project in Spaoh has reached 99.9 per cent completion and is on track to be fully ready by June 2026.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the near-completion of the project reflects the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s commitment to delivering development projects promised to the people.

He said projects announced by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg are not merely proposals, but are implemented and completed for the rakyat’s benefit.

“When a project is announced by the Premier of Sarawak, it is not just a promise, but something that will be realised for the people’s benefit,” he was quoted as saying by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) during a site visit to the Bebuling Stolport Airport project today.

Uggah, who is also Sarawak Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, said only several minor works remain before construction can be fully completed.

However, he noted that the airport would still need to undergo several technical procedures, including flight testing, to ensure operational readiness before it can begin full operations.

He added that the new airport is expected to significantly boost development in Spaoh and Betong by improving accessibility, stimulating local economic activities, and opening up opportunities in tourism and investment.

The visit, held from 10.30am to noon, included a briefing on the remaining works and was attended by about 50 people.

Also present were Betong MP Dato Dr Richard Rapu, Betong Division Resident Datu Richard Michael Abunawas, and Betong District Officer Laga Kueh. — DayakDaily
