MIRI (Oct 9): The RM41.1 million high impact Bukit Song Water Supply project will improve the infrastructure and water supply system in Beluru, Bekenu, Niah, and Subis areas.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the project is now in the construction phase.
“The construction of a new booster pump station with a capacity of three million litres, the construction of a reservoir tank with a capacity of five million litres, the construction of a high-level tank with a capacity of three million litres in Bekenu town, and the installation of a new 31km long pipeline,” he said during a visit to the Bukit Song Booster Station and Water Treatment Plant in Lambir today.
He said the water supply project has been carefully planned by the Sarawak government through the ministry, with the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) as the implementing agency.
Julaihi added the project is vital to accommodate the growing demand for water supply in the areas concerned.
“Once this project is fully completed in the first quarter of 2025, it will increase the production capacity of clean water supply to users in Bekenu, Beluru, Niah, and Subis.
“At the same time, it will also ensure a better quality of life for 14,000 residents in the area,” he said.
To guarantee better and continuous quality of water supply in Miri Division, Julaihi said JBALB Sarawak will ensure the projects that are currently in the implementation stage will be completed within the set timeframe.
“The projects are part of the Sarawak Water Supply Grid System to solve water supply issues effectively and comprehensively,” he added.
