MUKAH: The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has revealed an outstanding balance of RM477,189 for the Longhouse Loan Scheme in the Mukah Division as of July 2024.

HDC chairman Abdul Yakub Arbi, who is also the Balingian assemblyman, said this represents a delinquency rate of 5.96 per cent.

He said a total loan amount of RM13,755,000 was allocated for 20 longhouses in Mukah Division.

He made these remarks during the HDC Longhouse Loan Scheme Dialogue Programme held with community leaders and heads of longhouses at Mukah Division Sarawak Government Administration Centre here recently.

Abdul Yakub added that HDC Dialogue aims to raise awareness about loan repayments, introduce new loan payment methods, promote the loan scheme, and share information about the fire insurance facilities provided by HDC.

Since its inception in 1978, the Longhouse Loan Scheme has been funded by both the state and federal governments.

From 1978 to 2006, funding came directly from these governments, while from 2007 to 2024, it has been supported by the Loan Scheme Trust Fund.

To date, the scheme has facilitated the construction of 24,645 units across 1,133 longhouse projects, totaling RM505.94 million in loans.

Also present at the event were Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine and HDC chief executive officer Fathi Hambali.
