RM6.5 mln compensation paid to 119 recipients for Lubok Punggor AgriHub project in Gedong

KUCHING (March 9): A total of 119 recipients received compensation cheques amounting to RM6.5 million in connection with the Lubok Punggor AgriHub development project, which is expected to boost modern agricultural activities in the Gedong area.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the cheques were presented by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the Gedong district breaking-of-fast event held at Al-Khawtar Mosque here on Sunday.

The compensation payment reflects the Sarawak government’s effort to facilitate the smooth implementation of the AgriHub project while ensuring that affected landowners are duly compensated.

The Lubok Punggor AgriHub project includes the development of a warehouse and machinery workshop, construction of a water reservoir, and works to build and upgrade irrigation and drainage infrastructure in the area.

During the event, assistance was also extended to the asnaf group, with 10 representatives receiving contributions on behalf of around 300 beneficiaries. The aid comprised RM10,000 from the Sarawak Premier’s Office, RM50,000 from the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), and RM30,000 from Bank Rakyat.

In addition, RM61,000 was distributed to 26 recipients under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation, involving mosques and suraus in the area to support religious and community activities.

Abang Johari also joined the local community in performing the Maghrib prayer and breaking fast.

Among those present were State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee, Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris and advisor (SME) to the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais.
