SIBU (Aug 31): The road maintenance projects at some of the main roads at Tanjung Kunyit area have been completed, said Councillor Kevin Lau
The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Community Development team leader said this after he, alongside his team, community leaders and the contractor yesterday conducted inspections on the road sections.
According to Lau, they discovered some issues with the work progress, which started in the middle of August, whereby some portions of the roads are flood-prone.
After the team highlighted the issue to the contractor, he said some sections of the roads were raised to resolve the issue.
“With funding from the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris), the roads are being maintained and the local residents can now use them with a peace of mind,” he said.
Separately, Lau also inspected the overgrown weeds issue along the ditch at Jalan Hock Ming on Thursday following requests from the residents.
Yesterday, his team together with a Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sibu engineer visited the site to find solutions to the problem.
“The residents here are worried because the weeds are very dense, which is causing slow discharge of water and eventually will cause severe flooding, especially in the agricultural areas.
“Although it had been cleaned up last May, the weeds grow very fast and are slowly covering the ditch,” he said.
Lau said he had discussed the solution with DID, and will continue to follow up with them on clearing the drainage to ensure fast discharge of water.
