MIRI (Sept 2): Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau has announced a rural transformation project of over RM70 million that will soon be taking place in Long Bemang, Baram.
He said the three major projects will involve the construction of a riverbank erosion barrier, water plant, and road works from Long Bemang village junction.
“Long Bemang is a longhouse within Telang Usan area that experiences flooding at least seven times a year,” he said, adding that the erosion barrier project tops the list due to the village’s location in flood prone areas.
“Thus, I hope that residents will be relieved when the riverbank erosion barrier project is completed in May, 2026,” he said during a ground breaking cum thanksgiving ceremony for the project implementation at the village recently.
“The 200-metre-long barrier costs about RM8.88 million and will be carried out by a local company, under the supervision of the Public Works Department (JKR) Miri.
“As for the water plant, the project is estimated to cost about RM20 million, whilst the remainder for the road project is more than RM40 million,” he disclosed.
Due to the projects’ high costs, each of the projects will commence in phases, he explained.
“Application for the next phase will be submitted to the government to secure funding for the extension of the barrier,” Dennis said.
“The process of securing large-scale projects is meticulous and takes a long time. After numerous follow-ups, this project can finally be implemented this year,” he added.
