KUCHING (Oct 14): The teacher recruitment in Sarawak this year has increased with 2,180 candidates selected, exceeding the original 1,140 vacancies, said Sarawak Education Department director Datu Dr Azhar Ahmad.

In a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, he praised the efforts of the Sarawak government through the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), and supported by the Education Ministry (KPM), for this positive outcome.

Moreover, he highlighted that this progress is a crucial step towards addressing the shortage of teachers in the state.

“The number of candidates that have been called for an interview has been encouraging and should be sufficient so as to meet the requirements for this November,” he said when met by reporters after officiating at the 2023 Padawan District Education Office (PPD) Excellent Service Award Ceremony held at a leading hotel here on Sunday evening.

During the event, 250 staff members of PPD Padawan were honoured as recipients of the 2023 Excellent Service Award.

Among those present were Sarawak Education Department deputy director Dr Abang Hut Abang Engkeh and Padawan District Education officer Dr Abang Adam Abang Deli.
