The remand order, effective from today until Nov 1, was granted by Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali at the Magistrates’ Court here today.

KUCHING (Oct 29): Three officers from the Sarawak Immigration Department have been remanded for four days to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in a bribery investigation involving work permits for five Indonesian migrants.

The remand order, effective from today until Nov 1, was granted by Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali at the Magistrates’ Court here today.

The officers, consisting two men and a woman, are alleged to have solicited and accepted bribes ranging from RM3,000 to RM5,000 from the migrants’ employer to secure work permits.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

The three suspects are represented by counsel Ralph Lee.
