KUCHING (Aug 17): Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg received courtesy calls from Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Petra Jaya here on Friday.

During the courtesy call, Mohd Shukri exchanged views with Abang Johari on the progress of both Perlis and Sarawak, according to a Penerangan statement.

Saifuddin, on the other hand, aimed to discuss identification documents for stateless citizens in Sarawak.

When met by reporters after the visit, Saifuddin said his ministry and the Sarawak government had agreed to establish a Special Task Force which aims to address identification documents for Sarawak.

“The purpose of this task force is very specific, which is to simplify the procedure so Sarawakians without identification documents can acquire them,” he said.

He said the Sarawak government has helped a lot in terms of logistical assistance for access to the interior of Sarawak.

“Our main agency is the National Registration Department, so with the combined effort, this committee can make it easier for us to reach out to remote areas based on data collected by the state government,” he said.
