MIRI (Aug 17): Minister of Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin will be representing the Holy Spirit Church Permyjaya in discussions with a telecommunications company regarding the removal of a telecommunications pole that was installed at the entrance of the church’s premises.

When speaking with reporters yesterday, the Senadin assemblyman said the company had requested more than RM10,000 to remove the pole.

“I was told that the 1.5-acre state land for the church was approved by the State Planning Authority more than two years ago and also that the telecommunications pole was installed at the entrance much later.

“So, there must be some form of miscommunication. I will discuss with the telecommunications company regarding this matter,” said Lee.

Meanwhile, following the elected representative’s site inspection of the church, he noted that the project had reached an overall progress of 95 per cent.

“Once completed, which is expected by year end 2024, the church will be able to accommodate 800 to 1,000 individuals at any one time,” he said.

Lee reiterated that the RM6 million project has been progressing on schedule, and expressed gratitude to the Unit for Other Religions for the allocation of RM2.2 million.

“The church still needs another RM4 million to cover the rest of its costs as fund raising has been a bit slow,” he said.

Additionally, he revealed that Unifor officials will also be visiting the church site soon to inspect its progress.
