Wong was appointed by the Minister of Transport upon consultation with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, under Section 5(1)(c) of the Malaysian Aviation Commission Act 2015.

Since June 5, Wong has served as Permanent Secretary of the Sarawak Ministry of Transport, bringing over 30 years of experience in public administration. His notable leadership roles include chairman of the Sarawak Buoys and Light Board and executive chairman of the Sarawak Road Safety Council.

Wong’s dedication to public service has earned him several prestigious accolades, including the Darjah Jasa Bakti Sarawak, which carries the title ‘Datu’.

Welcoming Wong, Mavcom executive chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim expressed enthusiasm about the new appointment.

“We are delighted to welcome Datu Wong to Mavcom. His vast experience in public service and leadership in transport-related fields will contribute greatly to the Commission’s ongoing efforts to foster a dynamic and competitive aviation landscape,” he said.

In addition, Saripuddin expressed his appreciation for the outgoing chief operating officer (COO) Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, whose contract concludes on Sept 14, 2024.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to Raja Azmi for his four years of dedicated service to Mavcom. Throughout his tenure, Raja Azmi has demonstrated exceptional strategic insight and professionalism, navigating the Commission through significant industry challenges.
