Sabah lawn bowls Women’s Fours team celebrate their bronze medal outing in Sukma XXI.

KUCHING (Aug 16): Sabah Lawnbowls Association (Bowls Sabah) president Shuib Hashim hoped the state athletes can spring a surprise by winning more medals in the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma).

Shuib made the remark as Sabah concluded the first half of lawn bowls competition with a bronze from the Women’s Fours at the Petra Jaya Lawn Bowls Arena here.

He said the squad will look to the 2016 Sukma which Sarawak hosted for inspiration, where Sabah won several medals including one gold.

“I hope there will be some surprises from our athletes where another five events will be contested after this.

“We will give our best in our efforts to win more medals,” Shuib said when met.

The first four gold medals in lawn bowls were decided yesterday but Sabah had only a bronze to show.

The Women’s Fours team comprising Adilah Justine, Nur Zarifah Wajihah Zaidi, siblings Nuremilda Jazeemi and Nurnajmi Jannah Jali @ Jalit and reserve Nurafeqah Qhalisah Alham defeated Kedah 10-7 to finish third.

The gold went to Sabah’s conquerors in the semifinals Selangor after beating Pahang 15-13.

Meanwhile, lawn bowls competition will continue with another five golds to be won in the Mixed Pairs, Men’s Fours, Men’s Singles, Women’s Pairs and Women’s Triples.
